What primitive family can be more famous than the wacky Flintstones? Get the whole family or gather your friends and dress up with Flintstones costumes for your upcoming costume event or even prepare as early as now for the Halloween event this year.
Whoever you may want to be among Fred, Wilma or Pebbles, there are a lot of Flintstones costumes available in most online shops and retail costume stores. Although the Flintstones Family is the carrier name of the whole cartoon series, these stores also include the ensemble for the Rubbles Family – Barney, Betty and Bambam. The whole collection of these different costumes are available in adult and kid sizes, from standard to extra large or small, medium and large. The price range for all of these is from $24 to $35 for the adults and from $20 to $30 for the kids.
These costumes are inclusive of the signature items worn by the characters. For example, the Fred costume is composed of the orange with black spots tunic and oversized ragged blue tie. The Wilma costume is comprised of a simple white dress with ragged edges, plush stone-looking necklace and foam red headpiece. The Pebbles look, either for adults or kids, consists of the pink with black designs sleeveless shirt and shorts or skirt and the bone-adorned red headpiece. However for the toddler version
of the Pebbles costume, it is usually a jumpsuit with attached shoe covers so that the kid would feel protected and warmer. This jumpsuit already has the skin tone arms, legs and exposed tummy plus the pink clothes.

If you want to spend less but still have the vibe of this Stone Age bunch, you can explore your creativity and make your own Flintstones costumes. Firstly for the family, assist the little ones in cutting up fabric. The next thing for both groups is to let everyone pick their character. An innovative approach would be to ‘switch’ places. For example for the family, Mom and Dad get to be Pebbles and Bambam and the kids get to dress up as Fred and Wilma. Your entourage will then get more attention.
For everyone, print out pictures of each of the characters so that you will have an easier time copying their image. For Fred, find an orange t-shirt. Cut up the sleeves and loosely tatter the edges. Make sure though that the ragged edges you will make would still closely resemble the infamous Fred outfit. As for the design, you can either use black markers or paint to make the circle patterns. The next thing you have to do is to find a sky blue or turquoise tie or cloth. If you are willing to grunge up your tie, that would be easier for you. Ruff its edges and wear that with your costume.

For Wilma, get an oversized white dress shirt or knee-length dress. Remove one sleeve to have the asymmetrical design. Ruff the edges as well. For her signature necklace, make half-of-a-fist size balls from white fabric or look out for such sized Styrofoam balls and thread them together. If you want a drastic yet really alike Wilma image, dye your hair red. Poof it up in a high ponytail. If you can’t do that, just find a cheap red wig. And for Pebbles, find an oversized pink shirt and matching shorts or skirt for your kid. Cut the neck of the shirt into a small V-neck opening and cut the bottom of the shirt and shorts or skirt raggedly. Allow your kid to draw the black designs on the costume. For the hair, make a bone ribbon and adorn the top-half ponytail with it.
To complete everyone’s Flintstones costumes, take note of the footwear. You can go barefoot, wear stockings or put some fur on an old pair of shoes. Also, accessorize with caveman clubs, bones and other primitive chunky made-from-scratch stone and wood gadgets. Shout out, “Yabba Dabba Doo!” or sing out the famous cartoon series theme song, “Flintstones, we’re the Flintstones…” upon your entrance. And your whole Stone Age entourage will surely attract those people from the ‘future’.
